Why do celebrities always think they can get away with stuff just because they're famous. What prompted this for me was a friend telling me about Kanye's "dis" at the VMA's tonight. After Taylor Swift, a young country singer, wins the best video award Kanye takes a microphone and says that Beyonce, in short, had a better video. The details are unclear because it was so recent.
But if someone in a high school for example were to win an award, its unlikely that someone goes on stage and says that their friend should have won right as the winner gets their award. At the VMAs I believe that they should all have a respect for everyone in their industry. Of course you might have a favorite, but it's always polite to keep it to yourself. At the Grammys Awards, or Oscars, they always show the nominees, even the ones that don't win, and it is just common curtisy that even if they don't win they act respectable when they know the camera is on them. But there are always a few that believe because they are famous and have a giant ego it makes it okay for them to do whatever they want. They think because they are a hot shot everyone wants to know their opinion.
Why do they feel that because of their status, they are above common curtisy?
P.S. Taylor Swift is amazing!

I definitely agree with you Morgan. Many celebs always act crazy and do stupid things, and they think they can get away with it without suffering any consequences. However there are certainly celebrities who behave appropriately, like Taylor Swift. I think Kanye West is someone who falls under the first category, and in addition someone with a huge ego. On live television he insulted Taylor and also seemed to have embarrassed Beyonce as well. Clearly he needs to get an attitude check. But, if any good comes out of this situation, its that maybe now some of those rude celebrities will understand the effects of their actions.
ReplyDeleteone quick correction, Taylor Swift won best female video, not best video. Also Beyonce ended up winning best video overall, and she let Taylor Swift come on stage as well which shows real respect.
ReplyDeleteSo Kanyes comment looked pretty stupid to be honest because Beyonce's video did in fact win.
Morgan you naive fool, Kanye is the best at everything. He can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, however he wants. Not really, but your right it does seem like celebrities think that way. I too think that successful people of all professions, whether they be actors, athletes, musicians or even politicians, often believe their fame entitles them to act as rudely and arrogant as they please. However, I disagree with your statement that celebrities think their giant ego's allow them to do whatever they want. I think they do whatever they want because their sensible judgment is clouded by their giant egos. (Now I really want an eggo waffle). I think that people of fame become too familiar with seeing their own faces on television, newspapers, magazines, ect and slowly adopt the belief that they are too cherished by society to be judged and critiqued like a "common" person. This is especially true for Kanye West, king of the egotistical celebs. Last year when his latest album was released he deamed himself the voice of a generation. The makers of the television show South Park responded to Kanye's colossal ego with this, http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/1305, it is quite hilarious and if you have 20+ minutes I would suggest watching it.
